Flat Bottom Silos
A flat bottom silo is a cylindrical grain storage structure with a level concrete base and vertical sidewalls, designed primarily for bulk storage of cereals and agricultural materials.
Unlike hopper bottom silos, which discharge grain through a cone-shaped base, flat bottom silos store significantly larger volumes and utilise sweep augers or extraction systems to empty the silo once the grain level reaches the floor.
Their design makes them ideal for:
-
Long-term grain storage
-
High-capacity bulk storage
-
Commercial grain handling operations
-
Farms requiring maximum storage efficiency per footprint
Flat bottom silos are commonly used for storing:
-
Wheat
-
Barley
-
Oats
-
Oilseed rape
-
Maize
-
Animal feed ingredients
Maximum Capacity & Storage Efficiency
One of the biggest advantages of flat bottom silos is their ability to store large volumes of grain efficiently and economically because the floor remains level, nearly the entire structure can be utilised for grain storage
allowing operators to achieve:
-
Higher storage capacities
-
Improved tonne-per-square-metre efficiency
-
Lower cost per tonne stored
This makes flat bottom silos particularly effective for medium to large-scale farming operations and commercial grain facilities where bulk storage capacity is essential.
At Grain Gear Services Ltd, we supply flat bottom silos ranging from smaller farm-scale units through to large industrial systems capable of holding thousands of tonnes of grain.
